Summary of Summer Baseball Teams

Summer baseball is for all MAALL players from ages 7 to 12.  MAALL will compete in two types of leagues this summer.

Williamsport District Leagues/Tournaments:

  • Fun, highly competitive leagues for 8-12 year-olds
  • Tryouts required
  • Roster sizes are capped
  • Teams typically formed by age group (e.g. 12 year-olds play on the 12 year-old team)
  • Team selection is done by the Williamsport team head coach, spring season head coaches, MAALL Player Agent and Division Coordinator utilizing coaches’ assessments from the spring season, tryout evaluations and additional coach input.  See below for further information.
  • Player must have played in at least 8 regular season games
  • Expectation to be at almost all games/practices (vacations should be planned for after the season)
  • Home games/practices will be primarily at Ginty.  Travel required to local towns for away games.

Adding to the above, the selection process for Williamsport teams will be under the supervision of the President, VP Baseball operations & Player agent. The selection group noted above will pick the minimum amount of players each tournament will allow for each age group.  Player selection will be based on (in order):  player eligibility, player availability and player evaluations.  Coaches will select, through paper ballots, the best player in that age group to the team, then select the  2nd best player in that age group  to the team, etc., until the minimum number of positions on the team have been filled.  Any additional kids added to the team (within Tournament limits) will be the decision of the head coach .

New Providence League:

  • Fun, competitive league for 7-12 year-olds
  • No try-outs necessary
  • Teams first formed by age group.  If not enough players at a certain age group, ages may be merged (e.g. 9 and 10 year-olds on one team)
  • Expectation to be at most games/practices
  • Home games/practices will be primarily at Ginty & Morris Plains.  Travel required to local towns for away games
